22. This is a white people's disease, I mean look where the problems with chronic diseases are mainly - Europe, North America, especially New York. My more southern heritage, or different genes seem like pretty good protection, so I can keep the lights on without having to worry so much.

I hear this sort of objection much more rarely now. It's becoming all too clear that once industrialization and modern conditions arrive other populations, such as in south-east Asia, are actually even more vulnerable than European-derived populations to chronic illnesses under modern conditions of life. In fact, African-Americans and Native Americans seem to be markedly more vulnerable to many chronic illnesses, such as hypertension and diabetes. Multiple Sclerosis and eczema are now becoming more and more common in southern countries such as Mexico where they were once very rare, etc. etc. Northern countries industrialized first, so their populations were the first to be affected; but other populations, such as those of Asia, are now proving at least as vulnerable.
